Intro to Art Drawing/Printmaking Painting Crafts Graphics Ceramics Sculpture
 
This beginning art course places an emphasis on the elements of art and the principles of design through the creation of two and three dimensional works of art using a variety of media and techniques. The students will be involved in drawing, painting, collage, watercolor, printmaking, and sculpture. This course includes an introduction to the historical and social backgrounds of selected artworks.
This introductory clay class will explore the various methods of hand built pottery. These methods will include slab, pinch and coil. Students will create clay works after exploring methods and ideas of earlier civilizations. They will finish their pottery through the use of glazes with these ideas in mind.
Students who have previously taken Ceramics I will expand their knowledge and skills by continuing on with techniques learned in Ceramics I. They will also gain experience on the potter’s wheel. Students will develop a greater understanding of the decorative processes, by learning how to apply slips, under glazes, and over glazes.
The purpose of this course is for students to explore  history  through crafts. Students will be exposed to arts/artifacts of various cultures. They will experience the creation of crafts through a variety of media and techniques such as clay, basketry, woodcarving, mosaics, and fabric design: tye-dye/batique.
The student will create a portfolio of original works of art using a wide variety of tools and techniques. Printmaking includes block prints, monoprints, and collographs. Both drawing and printmaking will explore realistic, formal and expressive imagery making.
Jazz up your life by becoming proficient in the use of Adobe Photoshop, the design program that the professionals use! You will be creating logos, t-shirt designs, commercial illustration, posters, fashion designs, ad layouts, new type and cartoons.
The student will continue working with Adobe Photoshop to create computer graphics. New skills will involve the use of the digital camera to create artistic as well as commercial art images. The student will create promotional flyers, CD covers and images for entry in Art Competitions.
Painting is designed for the beginning artist to develop skills in painting techniques and media. Color theory is studied along with the understanding and creation of form/content on two-dimensional surfaces. The student will produce paintings in categories such as landscape, realism, non-objective, and abstract art.

The student will continue developing skills in painting techniques and media. The student will also understand the past and continuing development of an art form and theme by research. In this course the student will have the opportunity to work on stretched canvas and to enter art competitions. The student will also have the freedom to explore personal symbolism and style.

Students will be introduced to various artists, art styles, and selected artworks as they relate to sculptures of past and present
