King Turkey Day Parade – Saturday, September 15, 2007

6th, 7th and 8th Grade Marching Band Student and Parent Information

ALL 6th, 7th and 8th grade band students (not just the Summer Band students) will be marching in the parade.  The combined band will play “La Pantera” (Please work on memorizing it ASAP).

Uniforms

As I mentioned in the letter I sent out in the spring, there is a uniform change this year.  The marching uniform will be the red polo band shirt, black pants (gauchos for the ladies are acceptable) and black shoes (NO flip-flops).

Rehearsal schedule for the week of September 10-14

Thursday (9/13) before school – Percussion sectional.

Thursday (9/13) during advisory – Full band music rehearsal.

Friday (9/14) before school – Color Guard.

Friday (9/14) 6th Period – Full band marching rehearsal.

Friday (9/14) Afternoon – Perform at Renaissance Assembly (both sessions).

Schedule for Turkey Day (September 15)

1:00 PM – Meet in the middle school gym.  Be dressed in the parade uniform.  Load buses in front of WMS, transport to beginning of parade route.

2:00 PM – Parade begins.  Be sure to leave horn cases on the bus.

3:00 PM – Parade ends (McMillan and Clary), load buses and return to WMS.  Pick up students at WMS.

After the parade

If you want your student to stay downtown after he/she is finished marching and not ride the bus back to the Middle School, I need a written note from a parent/guardian.  Check with one of the chaperones at the end of the parade to make sure we don’t have any mix-ups.  This is for the student’s safety.  If you are not returning to the middle school, have the instrument case with you at the end of the parade route.

Parade Chaperones

We need parents who are patient, willing and able to chaperone.  Duties include:

-Last minute help at the middle school with uniforms and equipment.

-Riding buses to assist with roll call (critical after the parade), bus safety, rule enforcement.

-Walking the parade route with the band to assist with medical needs and equipment malfunctions.

-Passing out water at the end of the parade.

-Wearing your favorite Trojan red and/or black!

Donations

Re-hydrating the students at the end of the parade is necessary.  We need donations of bottled water (individual serving sizes – any amount), ice and large coolers to use.   Bring them to the MS Band Room before 1:00 Saturday.  If you can help out with chaperoning and/or donating, please contact me at the school.  Thanks in advance for all of your help and support!
