2008 Summer Programs

Time to Share
NCIC at West School
Room 126

FREE

Time to Share is designed for parents to attend along with their pre-school and early-elementary aged children.  Each day families learn about a different culture through guest presentations, crafts, games and sometimes food. Often the children perform at the Talent Show of the International Festival in July.
 
July 8-10 &

July 15-17

 

Day Camps at Adrian Elementary

$5/Week

For students entering grades 1-6.

Fun in the Sun Day Camp - July 8-10, noon to 3 p.m.
Come and enjoy a variety of games and activities that are fun to do in the summer.  On July 10 we will go to the Adrian pool, so please wear your swimsuit and sunscreen and bring a towel along.  Lunch and transportation are provided. 

Environmental Day Camp - July 15-17, noon to 3 p.m.
These three days will focus on practical ways that you and your family can be kind to the environment.  Staff from the Prairie Ecology Center will join us on Wednesday, July 16.  Invite a friend to join you for the Environmental Day Camp.

 
July 11-12 International Festival
Government Center Lawn
A weekend festival featuring a wide-variety of music from many cultures; ethnic food booths, children's activities and more.  This event is free and open to the public.
 
June - Aug Voices of Immigrants We hope to show this documentary to area residents and have staff members available to help facilitate follow-up discussions.  If you are interested in hosting a discussion with this topic, please contact us at 507-376-3300.
 
June 9 - 20
Adrian Elementary School
Summer Theater Camp
FREE
For students entering grades 3-8.
Join Jason Olson for two weeks of fun planning and preparing for a dramatic presentation on June 20.  The program presented will  be a modern rendition of Aesop's Fables.  You will learn basic acting skills as well as gain experience with behind the scenes stuff like set design and costume preparation.  Invite a friend to join you!  Transportation is available upon request.
 
August 4-7
MN West, Wgtn. Campus
Kids College 2008
$40/person
For students entering grades 5-8
Experience a wide-variety of hands-on learning opportunities at MN West Community & Technical College.  You will get familiar with the campus, spend time with friends, and learn future career possibilities.  Sign up begins on May 27 at MN West.  The 120 program slots fill quickly, so register early.

Kids College 2008
Mon. - Thurs.

MN West, Wgtn Campus

Coordinators: Amber Luinenberg Stevenson and Sharon Johnson

Youth who attend Kids College explore a wide variety of educational, enrichment and vocational opportunities.  It’s designed for youth entering grades 5-8 and it fills up quickly.  Registration begins on May 15. Registration form and payment must be submitted to MN West.

 


June 16 - August 11

1/2 hour per week

Read Naturally Program
FREE
For students entering grades 3-8
AmeriCorps Promise Fellows Lakeyta Potter and Nancy Landeros will be meeting with small groups of students each Monday afternoon to practice reading.  They will be using the Read Naturally curriculum to help students maintain or improve their reading level.  Many students regress over the summer, so this program is designed to help reluctant or struggling readers to retain their reading skills over the summer.  Call 507-376-3328 to request a slot for your elementary son or daughter in the program.  Transportation is not available for this program.
