About Our Teachers

Mr. Burns

Scott Burns is a Worthington native. After graduation, I attended Worthington Community College, and then went on to Mankato State University. At Mankato I earned a degree in history and obtained my MN teacher license.

I have had a wide variety of teaching experiences over the course of my career. I began teaching in 1986 at a private school in Savage, MN. My wife Karen and I then moved to the iron range, where I taught history in Tower, MN. We returned to southwestern MN in 1998 when Karen took a position at Worthington Regional Hospital. I went back to school and completed a special education licensure. I then taught in the Windom school system for six years as a special education teacher.

Since 2005 I have been teaching at Worthington Middle School. In my current assignment I am teaching intervention reading and math. This is to help students catch up, or assist in the process of finding students who qualify for special education supports. I am also teaching two specially created sections of history / civics for students that are new to the United States. I also help with peer mediation and our weekly video announcements.

Mrs. Spiegelhoff

My name is Jill Spiegelhoff. My first year teaching at Worthington Middle School as an Intervention teacher was 2014. I taught for more than ten years in other school districts in Wisconsin before we relocated in Minnesota. I have my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Purdue University and my Master of Science degree in Environmental Education from University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. I have taught grades 5-8 in the areas of math, science, reading, and social studies. No matter what the grade or subject area it is always exciting to see the moment when students are able to show they understand something new.

During my free time I enjoy outdoor activities including gardening, camping, and nature photography.
