450      ISD #518 Volunteer Coaches for School Sponsored Extra Curricular       Programs

I.          PURPOSE

The school district recognizes it is responsible in regards to ensuring that volunteer coaches for school sponsored extra curricular activities meet basic standards that are expected of all coaches who are employed by the district.

II.         GENERAL STATEMENT OF POLICY

Individuals who serve as volunteer coaches must adhere to basic ethical standards that apply to all coaches employed by the district.  Individuals who promote exclusion of children, attempt to exclude children and/or discriminate in any fashion will not be allowed to work as a volunteer coach with school based extra curricular programs.

III.       APPROVAL OF VOLUNTEER COACHES

Prior to the start of each season the head coach must submit to the Activities Director the name(s) of individuals that he/she would like to have as a volunteer coach.  The Activities Director will submit for approval to the Board of Education the name(s) of individual(s) who are being requested to serve as a volunteer coach.  All volunteer coaches must submit to a background check as required by law of any employee who works for ISD #518, as well as follow all policies established by the District.  The school district reserves the right to turn down volunteer coaches if they have reason to believe it is in the best interest of the District.
