Goods and Bads about V-Day

By Rosa Hurtado

February 14. Yeah it’s coming up and you know what they celebrate on February 14 -- its V-day and that means that February 14 is all about valentines. It is the day of love and friendship. There are people who like it and yeah there are people who don’t like it.

People who like Valentine’s Day are people that say “Oh I’m in love” and have a boyfriend or girlfriend. Yeah, these people like it because they are expecting something from their loved one and if they have been together for quiet a while they expect something good because yeah they have been together for a while.

People who don’t like it are people who don’t have a boyfriend or a girlfriend. They are the ones who don’t have someone to celebrate that special day with and won’t be getting a surprise (present) that day. People who don’t like it are those who don’t have someone to share that special day with.

But its okay because there are always people who like and dislike special occasions.

What do you know about Valentine’s Day?

V-Day was not celebrated until 496 A.D. when Pope Gelasius declared February 14 Valentine’s Day.

Quick Facts:

ü      Oldest Valentine is a poem by Charles, Duke of Orleans written in 1415

ü      Miss Esther Howland sent to first Valentine card in the United States

ü      Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, France, And Australia also celebrate Valentine’s Day

Rap vs. Rock

By:Heath Kane

This is for those of you who don't know Rock and Metal are the best and only real music out there today! Why does anyone even bother with other music like rap when it really isn't music?

I’ll admit that at one time I did listen to some rap, but it was decent rap groups like ICP and Twisted. It definitely wasn't G-unit or any of the other c"rap" out there today. I guess in my mind the only way something is music is if it’s about other things besides drugs, "homies" and stupid things like that.

So what about Rock and Metal?  Well, when you hear rock you hear talent and complex music, not just the same beat repeated over and over.  Good rock is different every time.   Face it, there are just so many things you can do with rock/metal that you just can't with rap.

Since most people in this school listen to rap, it proves that there are just an elite few of us who are real music lovers.  I am proud to be one of them.  Of course, this is all just my opinion I could be wrong.

Valentine's Day

By Sergio Chaparro

Have you ever been in love?  Have you ever had a psycho guy/girl tell you that they love you?  If so, it must be Valentine's Day -- the one day of the year when you can express your feelings with a card, or an e-mail, or even a loaf of bread (if you don't know, just ask).

Have you ever worried about where to take your love to eat?  Never fear. I’ve asked students and teachers were they like to go.

Korey: Valentino's
Tania:
Red Lobster
Bounthavy:
Perkins
Mr. Z: Olive
Garden or he'd cook it to impress them (sneaky).
Mr. Langseth:
Ichiban's

Now, let me inform you of the 5 steps in maintaining a great relationship:

5. They are always right. (Just go with it you'll be fine.)
4. Diamonds last forever. (Until they see a new one.)
3. Any guy who looks at her wrong, vice versa, gets it.
2. Don't lose yourself -- keep your friends.
1. The basis for any good relationship is yhe knowlege that your mate can kill you at any moment in your sleep!

Car Maintenance for the winter months

By Kenny Granstra

I’m going to let all you readers out there in on a few tips to keep your vehicle running strong through out the winter.

  1. Always keep your gas tank at least half full, otherwise with the warmer and colder weather, condensation will add water to the gas and eventually create an ice block in your tank. And yes, your car will refuse to run in protest.
  2. Get your battery checked out before the cold weather hits to make sure it’s still good. Cold weather takes a heavy toll on the battery.
  3. For all you pick-up people: run a lighter weight oil in your vehicle such as 5w-30 instead of 10w-30, the cold temperatures make your engine run a lot harder in the winter so a lighter weight oil will make it run much better.
  4. Let your vehicle run for at least 10 minutes when you start it up for the first time of the day, this will ensure that it warms up good and runs to top performance when you do go anywhere.

A well-maintained beauty

Your basic Langseth-mobile

  1. For those of you who love your vehicle, wash your automobile at least once a week. The salt and sand love to eat holes in your nice shiny paint. If you don’t wash you vehicle, rust will start peeking through by spring time. If you think Mr. Langseth’s truck looks nice, then let the rust eat away because that’s what your car will look like.

Now that I have gone over a few tips, I suggest you go down to your local car mechanic and get your vehicle checked out. If you take care of your vehicle, your vehicle will take care of you.

Gemini (May 21- June20):  Something good will happen to you, or else something bad will happen.  Or something like that.  We don’t know…

Socializing

By Jookie X

Getting and bringing people together.  Taking the time to know each other while giving full attention and respect. Greeting everyone by listening and responding carefully.  Being polite to others and being willing to listen to their facts, opinions and ideas.  Exploring another’s mind by getting to know their special interest.  Sharing things in common such as a favorite restaurant, and the foods you love to eat.  These describe my favorite activity in life – socializing!

Socilaizing is about keeping in touch with others and making plans for the weekend. It’s about treating one another in the way you would like to be treated.  It’s about getting and giving respect!

(Continued à)

Feelings develop as time passes by.  It may take weeks or even years. Still, show the love you have for others, keep your enemies out-of-sight and don’t allow them to bother you! Be careful of who you trust, but trust those you respect.
