Absolutely nothing happens at ALC

In a surprising development, absolutely nothing occurred at the Worthington Area Learning Center over the past week.  People were stunned.

“For better or for worse, we usually we have some news to report,” said ALC Dean of Students Paul Langseth. “But this last week was your typical week of learning..  Nothing extraordinary happened.”

Student journalists at The Insider, the ALC’s online newspaper, scrambled to find something to report.  “We usually have plenty of things to write about,” said ALC journalist Rosa Hurtado.  “But not this week.  It’s been a nothing-doing week.”

Some students were worried that the lack of news might affect their grades in the Journalism/Creative Writing class.  “I mean, if there’s nothing to write about, how can Mr. Zotalis give me a bad grade if I don’t write anything?” said class member Carla Cazares.

Teacher Peter Zotalis disagreed that there was no news to report.  “You can always find something to write about,” he said.

“You could review a movie or a television show.”  Zotalis added, “You could even write about not having anything to write about.”

Some students disagreed.  “Come on!  It’s hard enough to write something when you have something to say,” said Korey Stinehart.  “It’s impossible when you have nothing to say.”

ALC teacher Ray Lowry found that statement amusing.  “I’m having a hard time imagining Korey Stinehart with nothing to say,” said Lowry.

Nevertheless, the lack of news made it difficult to produce this week’s Insider.  Perhaps some terrible natural disaster will occur next week to make the journalistic task an easier one.  Let’s hope so.

NEW CARS

By.Korey Stinehart

There are a lot of cars coming out in future. They have a lot of ideas, but I don’t think that they are very appealing. I don’t like the style of most new cars.  However, there is one that really caught my eye.

You probably already know this car --  it’s a Porsche Boxter. This is the 2006 that is coming out.  It is a much better deal than the 911 and it comes with a little more horse power.

Here is another car that sort of got my attention so it’s second on the list. You would never guess what kind of car this is. It’s a Saturn Sky.  Man, this is a nice car for Saturn to be making.

This next car you won’t see on the road until 2008. This is a Toyota Supra. I like this car but there are some downsides. We don’t know the horsepower or any of the specs.

How to keep your car looking hot

By Kenny Granstra

This week I’m gonna tell you how to keep your car looking good through these winter months. As you know this winter has been hot and cold, with some snow and some rain. Your vehicle takes a real beating with all the salt on the roads.

Wash your vehicle at least once a week- when I say wash I mean wash everything, the salt on the roads will start rusting out your beautiful paint as soon as it hits the body.

If you have any chrome on your vehicle, you will want to get yourself some steel wool and polish every inch of your chrome, but make sure you don’t touch the paint.

Make sure you wax your vehicle at least once a month to stop rust from bubbling through the paint from the back side. And last of all make sure your get all the soap off your vehicle.  I don’t know why but soap seems to make your vehicle rust through a lot quicker.

Now that you know the best things to do when washing your car, your car should look better a lot longer.  Remember, if you take care of your car your car will take care of you.

Does music cause violence?

By Theresa Johnston

People say that hard rock music creates violence. Well then maybe so do a lot of other things.

These days, people blame their actions on videos, TV, movies, and music. I think that maybe they should take the blame on themselves. It's not the videos, movies, TV, and music that make them crazy. That is more or less on how they are raised, not anything else.

A St. Louis concert held by "Guns 'N' Roses" on July 2,1991 enraged a mob of 2,500 youths.  It developed into a riot resulting in 60 injuries.  Who was to blame?

In Jefferson Township, New Jersey.  A young man by the name of Thomas Sullivan stabbed his mother to death in the basement and killed his father and younger brother. People blamed it on the song that he was singing that week.  It was a hard metal rock song.

Upon investigation it was learned that he told his friends a week before that Satan had appeared to him and ordered the killing of his family! That's not the music. That is plain insanity. After he killed his family he committed suicide by cutting his wrists.  Again, who was to blame?

According to Satanist and brutal murderer Richard Ramirez (the "Night Stalker"), AC/DC's song Night Prowler became his motivation to murder 30 people. He said it gave him "inspiration".

Some study also revealed that of the 700 most popular heavy metal songs, 50% of them speak about killing, 35% of them speak of Satanism, and 7% of them sing of suicide. About 17% of teenagers listen to music containing manifestly destructive contents.  Among the youthful criminals, these figures reach 40%.

If you just ask me, I think that they are all just insane. If music made you go kill people, then over half of they people would be killing people because of song lyrics. It’s not the music – people want to blame their mistakes on anything, except themselves.

Don't blame things on media and music. The reason why psychos are, well, psycho is because they are psycho.

Music will always be around and so will the media.  So if something bad happens,
don't take it out on the music or media. It was you who did it -- not anyone else.

Hide and seek --  Is it worth it?

By Rosa Hurtado

Hide and seek is supposed to be scary? I mean my sister is afraid of anything and while we where watching the movie she didn’t even scream once.

The movie is about a typical family. One night the mom is taking a bath and her husband realizes that she had been in the bathroom for a while, so he goes and check on her.  He finds his wife dead and his daughter is right behind them.  Upon seeing her dead mother, the girl becomes traumatized.

Her father is a psychologist and he moves to a different place to help his daughter. When she gets to her new house she goes out to wander around and she returns home and starts talking to her dad about an imaginary friend named Charley.   Charley tells her all sorts of crazy things.

Hide and Seek is not the best movie.  It’s easy to understand but hard to explain.  It makes you wonder for a moment but at the end they tell you everything and tie up all the loose ends, but generally, it was a waste of time.

  The first

   cartoon
 reality show

By Segrio Chaparro

It's called Drawn Together. It is set in a big "cartoon" house. There are 8 people in the house. Captain Hero, Princess Clara, Ling Ling, Foxxy, Love, Spanky Ham, Xandir, Toot Braunstein, and Wooldoor Sockbat.

It's a kooky cast but the show is funny. It's intended for a mature audience.

You can catch this show on Comedy Central at 9:00pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It involves adult
situations in a dumb and weird way. Common issues become complicated and non-negotiable. There is some nudity (it's blurred).

It's a great show. If you have time, watch it. You will probably like it.

“Me”

By Jon Sieff

I am slipping and I can’t get up,

I tried to get up,

Slipping and falling.

My life is Hell, and more my life is getting,

Ripped a part bit by bit.

Life is hard,

Life is getting worse.

Life is getting to the bad ways,

With drugs and alcohol.

Life is lost.

Don’t fool yourself,

I am struggling more and more,

I am getting more hurt day by day.

Life is too beautiful to lose,

You’ve got to find your way.

I act one way with my Christian Friends,

And another way with my other friends.

You can win this fight for what’s right,

And you can change your life

For Jesus Christ.

Blah, blah, blah

By Sergio Chaparro

Have you ever heard someone talking to you and all you hear is blah, blah, blah? Well I hear that stuff all the time. I hear it two seats to the right every day in the computer lab for third hour.

Some people talk to you, then they just get annoying and all you hear is blah, blah, blah! Or when people argue around you it may sound BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! All I hear from Alie is blah, blah, blah. It makes everyone laugh (at Alie) and it makes them smile.

This is my opinion on certain people around the school and anywhere else. Bounthavy even hears the blah, blah, blah. Heath hears the blah, blah, blah.

Everybody hears the blah, blah, blah sometime in their life. Maybe not now but they will. Mr. Z probably hears the blah, blah, blah from some students. Paula definately hears the blah, blah, blah from students.

All in all people hear blah, blah, blah.
