Pizza, Pizza

Yum Yum!!

By Rosa Hurtado and Carla Cazares

Yeah the retail store is now selling pizza! Carla and I went and asked Nohelia Hernandez about it.

How often do you plan to sell pizza?

We plan to sell pizza every Wednesday or Friday once a week

How did you come up with the idea of selling pizza?

Well, I’m in the product committee for the School Store, and we had to think about new things to sell.  In a discussion, we came up with the idea of selling pizza.

Why did you decide to sell pizza?

So that students can have something different for lunch. There’s not much to choose from if you don’t want what the cafeteria is serving or nachos and cheese from the store.

How much does the pizza cost and where do you order it from?

 (Continuedà)

The School Store now offers pizza!

The pizza is $ 1.25 a slice and you can order as much as you want but you have to pay when you sign up the day before they order it. The pizza is ordered from Pizza Hut.

What kind of pizza do you sell the most of?

The kinds we sell the most of are sausage, pepperoni, and cheese.

What is the money from selling the pizza going towards?

The money is just for the store to buy things the store needs or buy more product to sell at the store.

Anything else you would like to say..?

Yeah buy pizza, please!

Student Murals

Teach culture, pride…

  By Andrea Rhoda

We have had students from many different cultures and races come through the setting four program.  The students are very much interested in their own cultures and where they are from.  They take great pride in their heritage and who they are.  I wanted the students to express themselves and teach others about their culture in a positive way.  The students did an amazing job with their murals and spent many hours working hard on them.

Laotian flag mural

Michael Fragga and his Chicano Pride mural

When I asked Mike why he chose to do the Chicano flag, he replied, "Because I'm Chicano."  Mike has also been researching his ancestors on the internet trying to find out where his last name originated.  He found out that he has ancestors in France, which really surprised him.

A second mural was created of the Laos Flag.  This student’s family came to the U.S. from Laos.  He is very much interested in Laos and has also researched his family on the internet and found that he has family in California and New York as well.

A third mural is in the works currently and not finished.  It would be cool if all of the

students who come through setting four in the future could create a mural to express who they are in a creative way.

I would encourage students to share with other students about their culture and their heritage.  People should be proud of their culture and where they came from.  With students teaching each other, we can decrease stereotypes or prejudices about those cultures.  Knowledge is the key.

My Opinion on the Mirror/Makeup Situation

By Alie Paine

The entire female group at the ALC should really heed my advice.  What is wrong with you people?  None of you ever listen unless it’s something that concerns you directly!  They kept telling us to stop smearing makeup on the mirrors or they would take them away, but did any of us listen? Noooo! You all just kept on doing it and now they have done what they were threatening to do and all is ruined.

Do any of you honestly know how bad it’s going to be without mirrors? What if you have dirt or a booger on your face?  You might not even know it because your friends won’t say anything because they think it’s funny and you’ll have to go like that all day?

I know most of us girls look at our butts in the mirrors when it’s that time of the month --just to make sure.  Now we won’t be able to do that!  What if you had to walk around with a giant blood stain on your jeans and didn’t realize it?  What if your make up got smeared from sweating in gym glass and don’t know about it?  I don’t think any of us want that.

So in my opinion, which I suggest you all take seriously, is that you all do your makeup at home.  It’s not like it should take much of your precious time if it takes you 10 minutes to do it here before class

(Continued à)

Just do your makeup at home!  I don’t know why half of you can’t get this through your heads!  I did.  I get up at 5:40 every morning just to make sure I’m always ready in time.

If you have to ride the bus and be ready before it gets there, then just get up earlier.  You don’t need those few extra minutes to sleep anyways because if you do it means you’re lazy!  If you’re tired because you stay up all night, then  STOP! You don’t need to stay up late night on a school night anyways!

I even have like 40 minutes left over every day to eat breakfast and gather all my stuff or watch TV or something; I could wake up at 6:00 if I wanted to!  But whatever, this isn’t about me it’s about you.

You people really make me want to hate makeup.  But I could never do that because makeup is my friend.  It keeps me from looking like a fish.  Sorry, I’m talking about myself again.  It’s okay though because I think I’m done now.  I just want you to know that I am very ashamed of all of you.

Band Name Origins

By Heath Kane

Have you ever wondered where some of your favorite bands’ names come from?  Well here are a few, and some of them are very strange.

Led Zepplin  They called their band “led zeppelin” because a friend said the band would go down like a lead balloon.  A zeppelin is a type of balloon.

Nine Inch Nails  Trent wanted something that was both seductive and brutal.  The nails on the coffin and the crucifixion story are not false, but are actually 100% true.

Nirvana  Well, nirvana is the Buddhist state of enlightenment…  Think of Kurt and you’ll figure the rest out.

Papa Roach  They stated on MTV that they chose the name because the lead singer’s grandfather’s name was Roach (pronounced Ro-ach – two syllables).  He was their “papa” so to speak, and the band was named as a memorial to him.

RAMMSTEIN  The name Rammstein comes from an air show accident in the 80’s in the town of Ramstein, Germany, where many people died.  They added a second M to the name to be different.

Dimmu Borgir  The Norwegian term for “dark fortress.”

Going down like a lead balloon

Mudvayne  The drummer had been drumming since he was eight.  He would play so hard that the veins in his arms started to pop out.  One day he was rolling around in the mud after playing the drums.  Band members thought the veins looked cool, so they named the band that, though they changed the spelling of “vein.”

HIM  This is an acronym for His Infernal Majesty.  Against popular belief, it has nothing to do with Satan.  His Infernal Majesty used to be lead singer Ville Valo’s nickname.  It had to do with the impact and pulling power he had on girls.

Insane Clown Posse  They were originally called Inner City Posse until band members D-lyrical and Misfit dropped out.  That left members Violent J. and Shaggy 2 Dope left, so they changed the name to Insane Clown Posse.  And that’s how ICP was born.

These are just a few of the very good bands out there and why the chose their names.  So now you know.  Oh and yes, just so that you all know, mainstream sucks,

Left Alone

By Theresa Johnston

I never thought it would happen

But it happened all the same

The day it all happened

Is the day it all became

The day I went crazy

The day I had no home

The day my family left

Is the day I was left alone.

I ran away from it all

All the anger and the pain

I hid away in a corner

In an alley; in a lane

Where no one would find me

People just looked and passed

No one even bothered

I wondered how long it would last.

Then an angel came to me

And lifted me off my feet

Told me that everything would be okay

And not to worry about the heat

The angel took me to a place

And I never will forget it

Where the angel brought me

The whole place was well lit

I walked  up a pathway

It was pretty long

On the way up

I heard a beautiful song.

(Continued à)

They sang to me as

I left and went up the stairs

Right then I knew all the people

The ones who had always cared.

They stood there by my side

As I went toward the sky

I saw them as they held me

As they sat there starting to cry.

I tried to tell them not tow worry

Everything will be all right

But then they couldn’t hear me

It was like a flash without the blow.

But then I woke up

I knew it was all a dream

I went downstairs

And they were all gone.

I knew it hadn’t happened

But something then went wrong

I turned on the TV

And a girl died today, just like in my dream

Even in the same way

I listened for a while

And when they said her name

The name…  The name, it was me.

Six tips to buying a good used car

By Kenny Granstra

Out in this world these days there are a lot of used cars. There are lots of good ones and some that are not so good. I’m here to help you to know what to look for in a used vehicle.

1.      Look at how many miles are on the vehicle. If there are more than 100,000 miles and it’s in tough condition, this vehicle has been through a lot.

2.      Look for any dents, dings, paint chips, or rust. If the vehicle you are looking at has any blemishes on it there’s a chance that it has had a hard life or the previous owner wasn’t all that caring.

3.      Look underneath the hood.  If the engine on the vehicle is all washed and clean, the dealer is most likely trying to hide and oil, or radiator leak.

Follow these six tips or you’ll end up buying yourself a Langsethmobile

4.      Take the car for a test drive.  If the owner doesn’t give you a chance to test drive it before buying it, its not worth your time because they are hiding something.

5.      Check all the gauges, especially the oil pressure gauge. If the needle is below half way the car has bad compression and is starting to wear out.

6.      Spend the money and have the vehicle looked over by a certified mechanic.  It may cost a little up front but you wont be sorry in the end.

These tips will help you out next time your looking to put yourself in a new ride. A lot of people out there these days are just looking to screw you over so watch out for the lemons.
