Kid’s Day at

the ALC

By Kensy Trochez

On February 16, 2006, the Human Anatomy class decided to have all the girls in that class bring their baby, or any baby (brother, sister, etc.) to school for the day.   The idea was to show guys at the ALC how hard it is for a girl our age to be with a baby all alone. Guys had to assume responsibility for a baby for one class period.

Kid’s Day took place on February 16 which was an early-out day. This was fun because the guys didn’t know this would be happening until they got to school.

The girls showed up in class with their babies (or little brothers and sisters) and the guys were all surprised to see the little kids in school. It was fun to see the shock on their faces.

February 16 was Kid’s Day at the ALC

The girls brought the kids with them to each of their classes. The guys had to carry the bags, babies, and do other things. The funniest thing was that the guys hated diaper changing because they said it smelled really bad!  For some guys, this was the first time they ever had to do this. But others were more experienced.

The whole day was a lot of fun, and it taught us something at the same time. It gave us a chance to share the experience of childcare with the guys.  More importantly, it made the guys realize that they should think twice about what being a father means…

Dream Jobs

My life as a mattress tester…

By Tyler Dorschner

My dream job would be a mattress tester. I would enjoy having a job as a mattress tester.  I would enjoy the job because of these reasons: I would be getting paid to sleep, I wouldn’t have to go to college for it, I would be getting paid for doing something I do every night, and finally because I would get to try the latest in mattresses before anyone else gets to.

I would love to be able to get paid to sleep.  I would be good at this because I have had a lot of practice between sleeping at my house at night or sleeping in the middle of class at school.  I’m a good sleeper.

Being able to sleep for a job would mean that I wouldn’t have to finish a lot of schooling for the job.  I wouldn’t have to go to college. Even if I don’t finish high school it wouldn’t matter because you don’t need to be educated to sleep.

Sleeping as a career would be ideal for me because I sleep most of the time as it is.  Getting paid for it would be great.  Since I sleep a lot it would be better if I just got paid.  I would try to sleep the best I could.

When a new mattress comes I would be able to test it before anyone would be able to.  I would be able to see what quality of sleep people would get, and how comfortable they would be.

(Continued à)

Is the job of mattress tester in your future?

As a mattress tester, I would be able to test the prototype of all mattresses and decide which ones would go on the market. I would be serving a vital function in society.

These are the reasons why being a mattress tester would be my dream job.  It would be a perfect job for me.  I would be the ideal man for the job.

Music Review

 Kill Hannah

By Alie Paine

Kill Hannah is a very good band that I have just recently learned about.  Although it has been around since 1995, not too many people know about it which is obviously because it is basically an underground band.

The band consists of five members: Mat Devine (lead vocalist and guitar), Jonathan “Jon” Radtke (guitar and back-up vocals), L. Ron “Garret” Hammond (drums), Gregory “Greg” Scott Corner (bass), and Daniel “Dan” Patrick Wiese (guitar and back-up vocals).

Kill Hannah has released 9 albums since 1995.  Their song “Kennedy” from the For Never and Ever album is one of my favorites.

(Continued à)

Kill Hannah’s song “Kennedy” sounds like something you would hear at a rave.

The song is about wanting to be a Kennedy (like President Kennedy) and their whole situation.  It kind of sounds like a song that you would hear at a rave.

The band formed in a dorm room at the School of the Arts Institute of Chicago in 1995 and is still going strong today. They had four members in the beginning, but that soon turned into five when Jon Radtke joined in the year 2000. The band is very hard to find information on because they are not well known.   I hope you enjoyed the bit of knowledge that I have given you.

Film Review

Date Movie

By Desiree Briski

If any of you have been to the movies lately or have been watching TV, you have probably seen a commercial about Date Movie. It is described as a romantic comedy and it was rated second in box office last week.

In my opinion it was very funny.  Some people might disagree, but oh well. If you enjoyed any of the Scary Movie movies, then you’re in luck because three of the six writers wrote Date Movie.

The movie is about a hopeless romantic named Julia Jones who is more than ready for a relationship when she meets the man of her dreams, Grant Fonckyerdoder.  He happens to be very British.

But before the couple to be can have their big fat Greek wedding or even meet the wedding planer, they have to meet the parents and Grant’s best friend, Andy.  Andy, who happens to be female, tries desperately to ruin her best friend’s wedding.

The film is full of laughs and humorous situations.  If you’re in need of a good laugh, check out this film.

Making animated cartoons

By Martin Lopez

One day in Mass Media we were not able to go into the computer lab like we do most days because the science class was using it. So our teacher, Mr. Lowry, came up with a simple but fun project – animated cartoons.

Animated cartoons are made by drawing a series of pictures each differing slightly from the others. We drew ours on sticky-note pads which were provided by the teacher. It was lots of fun doing it.  It involved drawing many pictures one by one, just like the cartoons on television are made.

Every student made their own unique animated cartoon by drawing a series of pictures. We then filmed them one picture at a time with a digital camera. Mr. Lowry later added music and titles at home with his IMac computer.

We got some idea just how complex it must be to create a regular cartoon.  If you want to see our simple cartoons click here….

As the Light Fades Out

Written by Alie Paine

Tick-tock the clock is calling.

Hurry up the hours are falling.

Run fast as time ticks away.

Go now you won’t be too late.

There’s still time just speed up your pace.

Don’t look back it’s only a waste.

I cry for you as time fades away.

Don’t let me down, oh this I pray.

Do you have time to come and save me?

Don’t you want to come and help me out?

I really need your help just come and save me.

I have no time as the light fades out.

(Continued à)

You’re drawing near, this I know.

I feel your presence as it starts to snow.

Snowflakes fall, such fragile things.

Through the storm, your heart beats like wings.

Running fast as the world blurs by.

Ascending as my soul floats towards the sky.

Don’t let me slip into a world so gray.

Keep me here just for one more day.

Do you have time to come and save me?

Don’t you want to come and help me out?

I really need your help just come and save me.

I have no time as the light fades out.

You got here in time to see me die.

You hold my hand and start to cry.

As I lay in my death bed.

There’s nothing left to do, I am dead.

Do you have time to come and save me?

Don’t you want to come and help me out?

I really need your help just come and save me.

I have no time as the light fades out.
