The Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre

By Dani Zinnel

What are you doing on Valentine’s Day?  Going on a date? Eating Candy? Watching a romantic movie by yourself wishing you had someone to watch it with you? Well at least you are not having surgery on Valentine’s Day.

Good thing Mr. Hyvari doesn’t have a girlfriend. Mr. Hyvari has two tears in his right knee menicus cartilage. They have to trim both tears and scrape arthritis of the back of his knee cap. He will not have to stay in the hospital.  Mr. Hyvari is having outpatient treatment so he can go home right after the procedure is done. He should only be down for about 4 to 5 days unless the doctor says his knee is worse than he thought when he goes to do the procedure. The procedure Mr. Hyvari will be getting is called an arthroscopy.

According to Wikipedia.com an arthroscopy is “a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which an examination and sometimes treatment of damage of the interior of a joint is performed using an arthroscope, a type of endoscope that is inserted into the joint through a small incision.” Arthoscopic are done to evaluate or to treat orthopedic problems such as torn floating cartilage, torn surface cartilage, etc.

Unexpected things can happen on Valentine’s Day

Hyvari knows for sure that he will be gone from Thursday the 14th to Tuesday the 19th with the possibility of additional days needed for healing. Hyvari says he would much rather be here with us than have his surgery.

Well, I know we all hope Hyvari comes out of this okay and that nothing major turns up. I can speak for all of us when I say we are gonna miss him during his hopefully short absence.

What I like about Valentines Day

By Tobby

Valentine’s Day is the best time of the month of February because everyone is filled with the chocolate covered hearts that have been given.  Cupid is a real open person who wears nothing but a diaper and carries around a bow.  I mean, come on, put on some cloths! But then again, maybe he’s not real so I  can’t say any of this

The most fun thing about this is that Cupid supposedly shoots arrows at people and your supposed to fall in love.  From his point of view, he probably thinks that it’s romantic, but in reality, wouldn’t it hurt?  Getting hit by an arrow is no joke.  Plus you can’t force people to fall in love it just happens.

We all celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 14th of this month and that’s when all the guys have to buy their women some chocolates, flowers or even worse, jewelry.  But for people who are single, you can just sit back and smile at your friends while they try and please their girlfriends.

My favorite thing to do on Valentine’s Dayis is to eat cookies or chocolate.  But other than that it’s my time of the month to be happy.  My family doesn’t really care about Valentine’s Day but my mom sure can cook a good meal.  She makes the best chicken ever on Valentine’s Day.

But really, Valentine’s Day is a day where all problems should be left behind.  Just enjoy the moment you have with someone.  It doesn’t have to be your girlfriend or boyfriend.  It’s just spending time with someone who listens.  That’s what I really think about Valentines Day.

Valentines Day Love

By Paul Severance

On wings of love my heart soars

It flies through the room

And over the floor

It flew out my window to see your face

It heard your voice

And it started to race

For your heart

It wished to embrace

When you’re around

The day feels light

The powers over the night

The snow on the ground

Is cold and wet

But what I say

You can bet

That it’s true

That I love you

And the last thing I say

Is Happy Valentines Day

The meanings of
  differently colored roses

Heather Kuperus

       Red

Red roses are the normal color for showing love and romance.  They are a way to say “I Love You.” A bouquet of red roses is the perfect way to express deep feelings for someone who is special in your life.

                   Pink

Pink is a way of showing grace and elegance.  Pink roses are given as an expression of admiration or joyfulness. A pink rose bouquet is a gentler way to express your love than their red counterparts.

                  Yellow

The bright sunny yellow color shows warmth and happiness.  Yellow roses express warm feelings often shared with a true friend. The yellow rose is the ideal symbol for showing joy and friendship.

White

White roses represent innocence and purity.  They are normally associated with marriages and new beginnings. The white rose is also a symbol of honor.  They are often used as an expression of remembrance.

Orange

Orange roses, with their brilliant color and energy,  symbolize desire and enthusiasm. They also represent passion and excitement, and are an expression of romance. A bouquet of orange roses will send a meaningful message to someone you love.

Lavender

The beauty of the lavender rose has caught many hearts and imaginations. Lavender roses are the perfect symbol of enchantment.  The lavender rose has also been traditionally used to express feelings of love at first sight.

 Have a Happy Valentine’s Day

By Tammy Jimenez

Go to fullsize image     Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14. It is the traditional day when lovers express their feelings for each other by sending Valentine's cards, giving candy, or presenting flowers.

The holiday is named after an early Christian martyr named Valentine. The day was later mentioned by Geoffrey Chaucer in a Middle Ages poem, and Valentine’s Day became associated with the Medieval tradition of courtly love.

To me I think Valentine’s Day is a time for people to spend time with their family and their loved ones. To some other people it’s a time for gifts and to do special things for girlfriends, wives, husbands, boyfriends, or others who are special to you.

Go to fullsize image     For some people getting and giving gifts is a big part of Valentines Day. I think gifts are a part of it, but Valentine’s Day isn’t all about getting things.   I won’t lie to you – I really like getting stuff, but it doesn’t show you how much that person loves you.  It’s just some thing to make you happy for a while.

I think Valentine’s Day is a really nice time to spend time with the ones you love or really care about. My son and I had to get his Valentine’s Cards for his class ready, so the day became a time I was able to do something with someone I love.

So I hope this Valentine’s Day is a special day that you spend with someone you care for and love.

What does Valentine’s Day mean

              to you?

By Tasha Brissom

St Valentine’s Day is on February 14th. It is traditionally a day about lovers showing how much they love each other by sending cards, flowers, or giving boxes of chocolate. Some people like to send anonymous love notes to each other on this joyous holiday. Here are my thoughts about Valentine’s Day.

What do I want for Valentine’s Day? I think it would be nice to get some flowers. I don’t think it would be bad to get some love notes. It would also be nice to be taken out to dinner at a nice restaurant, but it’s not like that’s going to happen. So I’ll just take it as it comes…

Mr. Hyvari hates Valentine’s Day. He thinks it’s a retail sport created by the flower and diamond industries and would never buy the over-priced flowers for women.

Paula says it’s just another day in February. She says your significant other should be treated special all year, not just on that one day.

 (Continued à)

Cec thinks that the holiday is overrated, but she likes receiving flowers and candy.

Mr. Lowry said it gives people a reason to send cards and flowers. It also reminds men they have to be sweet to their women once in a while.

Mrs. Schreiber expressed that it was a great holiday. She also states that it’s a nice way to show someone you care.

Mrs. Lowe has a very negative opinion about Valentine’s Day.  She says she hates the holiday and that it’s lame.

Mrs. Mosher’s take on Valentine’s Day is that she likes the holiday and that she and her husband usually go out to eat.

Mr. Knapp loves Valentine’s Day. He talked about how he remembered receiving Valentines as a kid.

Mr. Strouth likes Valentine’s Day. He says that he doesn’t think it’s a big deal but he doesn’t have any problems with it.

Barb loves Valentine’s Day, but she thinks it should be 365 days of the year.
