Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu (Age 14 & up) $30/session
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
is the martial art made famous by the Gracie Family in the Ultimate Fighting
Championship and mixed martial arts matches.
The art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
was derived from the traditional martial art of Japanese Jiu
Jitsu in the 1920s by Carlos and Helio
Gracie. The Gracie family, who tended to
be small in size, modified the martial art to allow a smaller and weaker person
to defeat a stronger or more athletic opponent by the use of timing and proper
technique. As we start our journey of
learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
or BJJ as it is commonly referred as, we will start our focus on the 36
techniques and variations needed to go from a white belt to a blue belt. As we progress, we will study all aspects of
the martial art including: History and development of BJJ, Theory of BJJ, The
Gracie Family, The four phases of ending a fight, The seven positions during
the fight, Techniques including: Escapes, Arm Locks, Leg and Ankle Locks,
Positional Control, Chokes, Takedowns, Clinches, Punch Blocks, Sweeps,
Counters, Guards, Defenses, Controls, and Self Defense Techniques. The instructor, Chris Hillesheim
is a ten-year veteran of Law Enforcement and has studied the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the last year in
