Independent School District 518 e-Learning Information
Independent School District 518 may utilize up to five e-Learning days per school year. These will take the place of a school day that would normally be cancelled due to inclement weather. This is made possible by Minnesota Statue 120A.141. Not all school days cancelled due to inclement weather will be e-Learning days. The decision regarding if a day is to be an e-Learning day will be clear in announcements made on inclement weather days.
Expectations of students on e-Learning days will be different depending on the student’s grade level. Students in grades kindergarten through 4th grade will have a list of educational activities for the students to experience. This list will be prepared for them by their teacher and distributed in paper form in a green pocket folder in the student’s backpack. The tasks will also be uploaded to the digital platform, Seesaw. Parents/Guardians of students will be asked to sign the activities sheet and send it to school with their student on the next regular school day to show participation. For more information pertaining to e-Learning days in grades kindergarten through 4th grade, see e-Learning Day Information for Prairie Elementary Students.
Students in grades 5 through 12 will have access to their class materials and assignments in the online platform Schoology by 9:00 a.m. on the e-Learning day. This material can be accessed through the district iPad that was assigned to the student at the beginning of the school year. Unless otherwise indicated by a course teacher, activities from the e-Learning day are due the following day. Checking in online during e-Learning days will count for attendance for that day. Not checking in during the e-Learning day will result in an unexcused absence for that day. For more information pertaining to e-Learning days in grades 5 through 12, see e-Learning Day Information for Students Grades 5 - 12.
Independent School District 518 understands that an e-Learning day cannot fully replace a face-to-face learning experience. What these opportunities allow for, however, is a chance to keep the educational experience of students moving forward without the stall due to inclement weather that we have endured in the past. If you have questions or concerns around ISD 518’s e-Learning day policies, please contact the district office by phone at 507-372-2172 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
