Prerequisite: Successful completion of Physical Science and Biology

There are many hot topics in science that we don’t get to spend much time on in the traditional science classes. The curriculum for this class will be participant driven with students choosing a topic to research and reporting their findings to the class. Students will be expected to participate in class discussion following each presentation. Students may also be required to read a science fiction novel and evaluate the feasibility of the technologies of the future as suggested by the author. Topics covered may include: ethics in science research, cloning, string theory, nuclear physics & chemistry, global warming, human genome, genetic modification, nanosystems, particle physics, and pursuit of new chemical elements.
