British Literature - Honors

One Term          Grade 12           Elective

This course is a survey of British literature beginning with the 5th century through the present. Students will read the novel A Tale of Two Cities, and the drama Macbeth. Various writing assignments use research techniques. This class is a prerequisite for AP Literature and is recommended for any student interested in taking the English literature Advanced Placement test.

August 27 - 31

Monday - "The Seafarer"  and Anglo-Saxon essay.

Tuesday - Dicken's Day Book 1 Discussion.

Wednesday - Begin Medieval Era.  Notes.  Introduction to ballads.

August 20 - 24

Monday - No class

Tuesday - Tale of Two Cities - read and discuss chapter 1; Notes on Anglo-Saxon Period. 

Wednesday - Begin Beowulf.  Discuss. 

Thursday - Beowulf.  Boast assignment given.

Friday - Presentation of boasts.  Anglo-Saxon riddles.
