Future Health Professionals Club – Crossroads Care Center Trip
This school year, students in WHS started a Future Health Professionals club (HOSA). This club is open to students who are looking to move on to careers in the health care field. Recently, students from HOSA helped residents of the Crossroads Care Center go bowling by assisting them with special equipment allowing for those in wheelchairs to bowl.
Students from HOSA have elected officers and attended several events such as the scrubs camp at Minnesota West Community and Technical College and Southeast Technical Institute. This club looks to continue to do great things within our community while providing students a base of knowledge around the health care career field.
Students who are interested in joining the Future Health Professional club in Worthington High School can contact the club’s advisor, Ann Mills. Mills is a teacher at WHS who currently teaches biology courses that many students take specifically to help reach their health care career goals. These courses are concurrently enrollment in partnership with Minnesota West Community and Technical College. Mrs. Mills may be reached at Ann.Mills@isd518.net.
Independent School District 518 has the great pleasure and honor of educating students from all backgrounds. A broad range of socio-economic, religious, ability level and cultural backgrounds are represented in the district’s more than 3,400 students. This diversity comes with its own set of hurdles, but those can be and are overcome on a daily basis at ISD 518, where excellence in education is provided for all students.
On March 23, a group of students with a particularly special story to be told will be celebrated. At the Immigrant Academic Showcase, students from all grade levels in ISD 518 who have immigrated to the United States will showcase their work and accomplishments to the community. This event is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend and see some examples of the great work done in the halls of ISD 518 everyday.
Items being accepted to be showcased include artwork, science fair projects, essays and poems, posters, videos and a wide range of other content created by immigrant students. The event will be organized in a museum-style with displays of work being available for viewing by students, staff, parents, families and community members. Some students who have submitted work may be available to present on their submitted piece.
All members of the public are invited to join ISD 518 students, staff, parents and family members as immigrant students showcase their accomplishments in District 518. These students have exemplified strength and prosperity in many ways and are eager to display the work they have done. Please join us in celebrating the hard work and achievements of immigrant students at the Immigrant Academic Showcase from 5 to 7 p.m. March 23 in the Worthington High School Cafeteria.
Immigrant students from ISD 518 who are interested in displaying their work may contact Gerald Oehler at Gerald.Oehler@isd518.net for more information. Students from Prairie Elementary may submit work to their classroom teachers. Students from Worthington Middle School may submit work to an EL teacher. Students from Worthington High School may submit work to the desk in the Media Center. Students do not need to be in EL classes to submit work. All work from immigrant students may be accepted.
