As another school year gets underway, I can’t think of a better way to begin, than by reflecting on the incredible community and school spirit we experienced at Trojan Field on Monday, August 24th at our back to school event.

Our first-ever Back to School Bash brought more than 3,000 students, families, staff members and community members together for an evening of food, games, activities, laughter and excitement as we kicked off another school year in Worthington.

As I stood on Trojan Field and watched families move from one activity to another, students reconnect with friends, and community partners welcome families with smiles, I was reminded of what makes Worthington such a special place. When our community comes together, great things happen.

This event was made possible because so many people and organizations were willing to contribute. We are incredibly grateful to the many financial sponsors who helped make the food and drinks available to our students and families. Your generosity allowed us to create an event where families could come together, enjoy the evening and celebrate the beginning of a new school year.

We are equally grateful to all of the organizations, businesses and community groups that hosted tables and activities throughout Trojan Field. From the energetic and fun games and interactive activities to information and opportunities for families, you helped create an atmosphere that was fun, welcoming and full of energy.

And, of course, none of this would have happened without the incredible work of Worthington School District staff. From planning and organizing the event to setting up, serving food, supervising activities, welcoming families and cleaning up afterward, our staff members put in countless hours to make the evening successful. Their willingness to go above and beyond is one of the many things I appreciate about working alongside the people of District 518.

Before students walked through the doors for their first day of classes, our community came together to tell them that we are excited you are here. We are ready for you. And we are all invested in your success.  That is a powerful message.

To everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, hosted an activity, donated food or supplies, helped with planning, worked behind the scenes or simply showed up to support our students, thank you!  You being there made the evening special.

Thank you, Worthington, for helping us start the school year with such incredible energy and enthusiasm.

When communities come together, great things happen. And Monday night was a wonderful reminder of just how great Worthington is when we come together.
