Updates in the District Safety Equipment

Our district works hard with mindset of the safety and health of our students, staff, and community members that visit our facilities addressed on many different levels. Recently you may have noticed that additional AED machines and signs have been installed in our Intermediate School, WMS, WHS, Learning Center, and District Office. An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a medical device designed to analyze the heart rhythm and deliver an electric shock to victims of ventricular fibrillation to restore the heart rhythm to normal. Ventricular fibrillation is the uncoordinated heart rhythm most often responsible for sudden cardiac arrest.

Each of our facilities has at least one AED machine available for use by our staff, EMT’s, ambulance, Worthington Police and Nobles County Sheriff’s Department, Worthington Fire Department, and others to use in the case of an emergency. The advancement of technology of these newer models are the ability to remove the devices to use elsewhere in the building, taking to a practice or playing field, and many other emergencies that could potentially occur and then return to the holding/recharging cases.

The recent purchase and installation of an additional 6 new AED’s was added to other AED’s that were already in place throughout the district. Similar to technology as a whole, as funding is available, the older models will be replaced by the newer models, even though the older models are still maintained and operate as they should.

Having the AED’s available to help in the case of an emergency is important and a key safety measure that our district has identified to assist our students, staff, and spectators or visitors to our facilities. We appreciate the help from Sanford Health in putting us in touch with a vendor that could help us with these new AED machines. We are excellence in action.
