Inclement Weather Protocols
What to expect:
Safety Assessment
- Forecasted snow, ice, temperature, wind
- Unsafe road conditions
- Temps of -35 or lower by 9:30 am (base temp or wind chill)
Communication
- Whenever possible, the night before by 9:00 pm
- Morning decisions by 5:15 am – 6:00 am
- By phone, email, text (opt-in), website, social media, radio, TV
- Be sure your information in CAMPUS is correct/up-to-date
School Closure Plan
- District 518 Schools will utilize Learn from Home Days (E-Learning Days) during the 2025-2026 school year for inclement weather day closings. Five (5) Learn from Home Days can be used pursuant to Minn. Stat. 120A.414. Learn from Home Days are used to limit the rescheduling of makeup days.
- All activities and practices are cancelled on school closures and early out days
Family Support
- Families should have a plan in place in the event of school closure, late start, or early out
- Parents may choose to keep their children home for safety reasons. Contact your school and submit an absence request for your student(s) to be excused
