School Resource Officers (SROs)
In Minnesota, School Resource Officers (SROs) are peace officers who are contracted with schools to build positive relationships with students and staff, fostering a safe and supportive school environment in addition with providing law enforcement services when needed. They are a resource for improving school safety and the quality of the school community, often serving as the first line of defense against various issues. SROs are not school employees but rather are commissioned law enforcement officers contracted with the school district. Minnesota has mandated specific training for SROs, including de-escalation techniques, responding to mental health crises, and working with students with disabilities.

Truancy Officer
In Minnesota, truancy officers, also know as attendance officers, are responsible for investigating cases of unexcused absences and enforcing school attendance laws. They work to ensure students attend school regularly and may collaborate with schools, parents, and other agencies to address truancy issues.
