About Our 6B Teachers

Mr. Burns

Scott Burns is a Worthington native. After graduation, I attended Worthington Community College, and then went on to Mankato State University. At Mankato I earned a degree in history and obtained my MN teacher license.

I have had a wide variety of teaching experiences over the course of my career. I began teaching in 1986 at a private school in Savage, MN. My wife Karen and I then moved to the iron range, where I taught history in Tower, MN. We returned to southwestern MN in 1998 when Karen took a position at Worthington Regional Hospital. I went back to school and completed a special education licensure. I then taught in the Windom school system for six years as a special education teacher.

Since 2005 I have been teaching at Worthington Middle School.

Mrs. Hibma

My name is Mrs. Hibma, and I am a 6th grade science teacher. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marsall, MN. I then received my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership through Winona State University.

While working on my Master’s Degree, I taught fifth grade in Rochester, MN. Then I was hired as a fifth grade teacher by District 518 in 1995. That means I have taught fifth grade ever since I’ve been out of college! For two years, I also had the opportunity to help teach a Master’s Degree program in Worthington during the weekends through Southwest Minnesota State University.

I love working with sixth grade students! They have a great attitude, and they get my jokes! They are enthusiastic learners who are ready to comprehend in-depth content. I love seeing my students’ faces light up when they have learned something new. It is fun to watch them gain self-confidence as they acquire new skills.

As the mother of a son and twin daughters, I have learned to value education in and out of the school setting. My husband and I love to take our kids on trips during the summer so we can all gain exposure to various areas!
