In response to the statewide school closure due to COVID-19, Worthington ISD 518 will be providing free childcare to all healthcare and emergency workers  and defined “Tier 2” workers who have students currently enrolled in ISD 518.  The definition for healthcare, emergency, and “Tier 2” workers can be found in this document: “Care for Children of Families of Emergency Workers – Full List.” Families are encouraged to first utilize their own daycare. If other options are not available, please follow the instructions below to sign up for the childcare program.

During the COVID-19 related school closures, childcare will be offered for these families.  Registration for this service is requested by noon on the day before childcare is needed. Children must be school-aged children (kindergarten through age 12) and currently enrolled at ISD 518.  The childcare program is located at Prairie Elementary (1700 1st Ave SW, Worthington, MN). Operational hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. ISD 518 will be using screening guidance from the MN Dept. of Health to minimize potential exposure and ensure that children in attendance are healthy.

If you are a qualified worker (as defined in this document), and you need childcare for school-aged students during the COVID-19 related school closures, please complete both required forms so that we may assess the level of need in our community.  Please fill out these forms prior to participating and no later than noon on the day before childcare is needed.

If you are unable to pick up your child from the childcare program and need to designate an alternate person, you must list the eligible person(s) on the registration form. ISD 518 will require all alternate individuals picking up students to present a valid ID to ensure the safety of the participants. Children will not be released to anyone unless prior notice is received from parent(s)/guardian(s) and identification is verified.

School staff will continue to consult with state agencies to determine next steps should school closure be necessary after Sunday, March 29th. We encourage students and parents to contact the Prairie Elementary if needs arise during COVID-19 related school closures.

Further information regarding additional student services including access to meals is available on the ISD 518 website or by calling the ISD 518 district office at (507) 372-2172.

We are grateful for all members of our community, including healthcare, emergency, and “Tier 2” workers as they play a critical role in mitigating COVID-19.

If you have additional questions concerning the childcare being offered, please contact Prairie Elementary School at 507-727-1250.
