The Worthington Trojan Speech Team gave outstanding performances at the Big South Conference Speech Meet on Thursday night. Two first place finishes led the way: MacKenzie Platt in Storytelling and Isaac Kinser in Discussion. Also placing in Storytelling and Discussion were Grace Gaalswyk (5th, Storytelling) and Team Captain Angela Dailey (2nd, Discussion). In Drama, Alondra Palma Zaragoza placed 6th. Jay Chavez and Austin Kinser placed 5th and 4th, respectively, in Extemporaneous Reading. Taking 6th in Extemporaneous Speaking was Cameron Kinser. Team Captain Lucy O’Donnell placed 3rd in Humorous, and Alondra Leon Flores placed 6th in Original Oratory. The team’s two Poetry Readers, Gerelyn Menjivar and Team Captain Quinn Benz, placed 4th and 3rd, respectively. Rounding out the night were three strong performances in Prose: Isabella Kouame, placing 4th; Gisel Martinez, placing 3rd; and Mikeayla Engidaw, placing 2nd. The team competes in their last regular season meet this Saturday in Pipestone in preparation for the Section competition, which will be held April 13.
