Seven Day Isolation Period Required After International Travel

Following guidelines and recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Independent School District 518 will begin requiring a mandatory self-isolation period of seven days upon returning from travel outside of the United States of America. It is recommended that anyone returning from international travel be tested for COVID-19 three to five days after their trip. Those who have completed a COVID-19 vaccine regimen and two weeks from the final dose has past are exempt from this rule.

If a negative COVID-19 test is provided during the self-isolation period, that person may end the self-isolation period after seven days and be allowed to enter ISD 518 facilities. If no negative COVID-19 test is provided, the individual must remain in self-isolation for ten days before being allowed to enter ISD 518 facilities.

This new policy concerning travel outside of the country follows CDC guidelines and is focused on protecting the health of our students, staff, and entire district community. For more information on the CDC policy, please click on this link to the official CDC webpage.

Here are some actions you may take to protect others from getting sick:

  • When you are around others, stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arm lengths) from anyone who did not travel with you, particularly in crowded areas.
  • Wear a mask covering both your nose and mouth when you are in shared spaces outside of your home.
  • If there are people in the household who did not travel with you, wear a mask and ask everyone in the household to wear masks in shared spaces inside your home for 14 days after travel.
  • Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

Look for symptoms of COVID-19, and take your temperature if you feel sick.

Independent School District 518 will resume in-person, grades 7 through 12 extra-curricular activities starting Monday, January 4

ISD 518 Students, Families, and Community Members,

Independent School District 518 will resume in-person, grades 7 through 12 extra-curricular activities starting Monday, January 4 in accordance with Minnesota Emergency Executive Order 20-103 issued by Governor Tim Walz. The Big South Conference will work within Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) bylaws to reschedule events that were postponed due to the pause. MSHSL requires each sports team to have a set number of practices before competition.

Winter activity schedules will be updated in the next few weeks on the ISD 518 website and can be found under the “Activities” tab on the homepage. The activities department will work with our coaches to communicate when and where each sports team will practice on Monday, January 4. Student athletes must have a physical on file, submit a complete activities participation form, and pay fees before they are allowed to practice or participate in contest. Activity participation forms can be found on the district website under “Activities” and may be turned into the office at the middle school or high school.

District 518 along with the Big South Conference and the MSHSL are committed to providing the safest environment possible for our students. Each program has put into place safety measures that are required to be followed during practices and events. The Big South Conference will provide each student-athlete with two guest passes admitting spectators into events for free. Spectators are required to wear a mask covering their mouth and nose throughout the contest.

Unfortunately, spectators will not be allowed at home middle school girls and boys basketball games due to limited seating and required spacing at Worthington Middle School. The athletics department will be streaming as many events as possible through the website nfhsnetwork.com and Facebook Live.

The District 518 Activities Department looks forward to a safe January 4 return and will provide further updates through our media outlets.

Josh Dale,
ISD 518 Activities Director
