Mission Statement
The mission of District 518 Community Education is to engage people in lifelong learning; enrich lives through shared experiences; and inspire personal growth and community connections.

The Community Education Classes and Activities catalog is mailed to area residents quarterly and also available online. We hope you will find a class that interests you. To sign up for a class, please call 507-376-6105. To register online, click here.

The winter Classes & Activities catalog will be mailed December 12.

    Prairie Elementary PASS Classes completed March 24, 2017

    Congratulations to the parents of Spanish and Tigrinya Prairie Elementary students, who completed the 2017 Spring PASS (Parents Advocating for Student Success) program, with a graduation ceremony on March 24. 

    The Spanish and Tigrinya classes were facilitated by Adry Stafford and Pilar Hartshorn, with assistance from Aida Simon. 

    We appreciate these parents for investing time to learn how to effectively advocate for the educational success of their children.

    Middle School PASS Class completed March 21, 2017

    Congratulations to the parents of the Middle School students, who completed the 7-week PASS (Parents Advocating for Student Success) program. 

    The Spanish class was facilitated by Adry Stafford.  We appreciate the parents investing time to learn how to effectively help their children succeed in school.


  • Substitute Teachers and Paraprofessionals needed

    District 518 is in need of more substitute teachers and paraprofessionals.  Individuals with a 4-year degree may apply for a short call substitute license on the Minnesota Department of Education website.  People interested in applying to substitute in District 518 may complete an online application through this website.  Click on the district tab, then on employment to begin the process.  For more information, contact Sharon Johnson at 372-1200.

  • On-call Interpreters needed

    District 518 is in need of additional On-call Interpreters to assist with conferences.  Individuals who are interested in being added to the On-call Interpreter list should begin by applying for the position on the ISD 518 website (click on the district tab, then employment). Interviews will be set up and new hires will be expected to attend an orientation session.  The next orientation session is scheduled for August 17, 10-11:30 a.m. at Prairie Elementary, room 142. Call Community Education to sign up for the orientation session: 507-376-6105.

    Worthington Reads!

    Community Education's Early Childhood and Adult Basic Education departments have teamed up to bring our communities an exciting online reading opportunity. 

    Families may now access an online digital library, free of charge, in a program called Worthington Reads! To use it, go to www.myon.com; then click on log in. Select the school: Worthington READS; enter the username: read; and the password: read. Then you can begin choosing books. 

    We hope that many families take advantage of this reading opportunity now and over the summer. Enjoy!
