Mission Statement
The mission of District 518 Community Education is to engage people in lifelong learning; enrich lives through shared experiences; and inspire personal growth and community connections.

The Community Education Classes and Activities catalog is mailed to area residents quarterly and also available online. We hope you will find a class that interests you. To sign up for a class, please call 507-376-6105. Select link to register online.

  • Fall Spanish PASS Classes Concluded

    PASS classes offered this fall, included two Spanish Prairie Elementary Phase I classes and one Spanish Middle School Phase I class. There were 19 parent graduates. The Prairie Elementary graduations and principal’s dialogue by Heidi Meyer, were held at West Learning Center. A celebration held at the Middle School, included a tour of the school by Jeff Luke, Carrie Adams and Justin Breske. Students presented parents with their PASS certificates, and were able to enjoy lunch together. PASS Phase II classes will be offered to these families in January or March.

  • PASS Classes for Parents of ISD 518 Students

    PASS is a program for families of students enrolled in District 518 schools, designed to help them become active in their child’s educational journey and to get to know the school system. Classes are conducted in Spanish and Karen and are held at West Learning Center, 117 11th Ave Worthington, MN 56187. To register, call/text Adry Stafford, ISD 518 Family Liaison, at (507)370-3682. There is no cost to attend this program. Childcare and transportation are available.

    Prairie Elementary PASS Classes completed March 24, 2017

    Congratulations to the parents of Spanish and Tigrinya Prairie Elementary students, who completed the 2017 Spring PASS (Parents Advocating for Student Success) program, with a graduation ceremony on March 24. 

    The Spanish and Tigrinya classes were facilitated by Adry Stafford and Pilar Hartshorn, with assistance from Aida Simon. 

    We appreciate these parents for investing time to learn how to effectively advocate for the educational success of their children.

  • Substitute Teachers and Paraprofessionals needed

    District 518 is in need of more substitute teachers and paraprofessionals.  Individuals with a 4-year degree may apply for a short call substitute license on the Minnesota Department of Education website.  People interested in applying to substitute in District 518 may complete an online application through this website.  Click on the district tab, then on employment to begin the process.  For more information, contact Sharon Johnson at 372-1200.

  • On-call Interpreters needed

    District 518 is in need of additional On-call Interpreters to assist with conferences.  Individuals who are interested in being added to the On-call Interpreter list should begin by applying for the position on the ISD 518 website (click on the district tab, then employment). Interviews will be set up and new hires will be expected to attend an orientation session. Call Community Education to sign up for the orientation session: 507-376-6105.
