MN West Drugs, Society and the Individual

One Term Grades 11, 12 Elective

Prerequisite: College level reading or placement by multiple measures This course (or its equivalent) is required for anyone that wants to apply for teacher licensure in the state of MN. In addition, the course may be required or taken as an elective for those that are interested in pursuing degrees in Community Health, Human services, Public Health, or Counseling.
Explores relationships between drugs, sociocultural influences, and individual attitudes and behaviors. Emphasis on psychoactive chemicals, including survey of physiological effects and psychosocial impacts. Investigates patterns of drug use; drug laws; consequences of drug abuse; addition, intervention, treatment, and recovery; and prevention strategies from both individual and social perspectives.
