"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically… Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education."
~Martin Luther King Jr.
The Social Studies educators at Worthington High School have a “… depth of historical, political, and cultural understanding” that is essential for engaging students with significant ideas. We encourage them to connect what they are learning to prior knowledge and to current issues, and to think creatively about what they are learning, and to apply that learning to authentic situations. Our students have the option to prepare for college by taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses in Human Geography, US History and Psychology. Powerful social studies teaching helps students develop enduring understandings in the core content areas of American Government, Economics, Geography, and History (US and World), and assures their readiness and willingness to assume citizenship responsibilities.
Competent and responsible citizens are informed and thoughtful, participate in their communities, are involved politically, and exhibit moral and civic virtues.
