Sociology is the scientific study of human social activity. In the popular nature vs. nurture debate, Sociologists emphasize “nurture” over “nature” when explaining individual and group behavior. This course is designed to help you better understand how your environment has impacted you, and thus how you have impacted it. Class time will be spent through lectures, class discussions, videos, readings and possibly discussion panels. In addition to participating in class, you will also be assigned worksheets from time to tim e, as well as nightly readings from your textbook. Tests will be multiple choice, short answer and/or essay. Topics that we will be covering include: History and Methodology of Sociology, culture, socialization, Social and Global Stratification, Race and Ethnicity. We will be watching one movie and reading one movie and reading one novel related to these topics.
