Wood Tech 1

One Term       Grades 10, 11, 12       Elective

This course will familiarize the student with basic planning and construction in woodworking. Good safety practices will be studied. Topics covered will include furniture joinery, kinds, types and uses of various woods, identity and uses of various hand tools and power equipment, planning procedures, board feet problems, and bill of materials for personal products. Students will be able to choose a project from a group of preselected projects. No prerequisite.


Wood Tech 2

 One Term       Grades 10, 11, 12       Elective

 Prerequisite: Wood Technology 1

This course is designed to devote more time to a personal wood project to achieve a higher degree of workmanship. Students will implement a more in-depth study of planning and construction. Specialized hand tools along with specification, maintenance, and special uses of power equipment will be studied. Wood joinery, project drawing, and bill of materials will be used. Students will be able to choose a project from a group of preselected projects or build a different personal project (subject to instructor approval).
